We are glad to welcome our entomology-minded visitors! Please email the insect museum staff at cahnrs.ento.museum@wsu.edu for tour requests or inquiries. We will ask for details of your group and work to schedule a time for a visit.
The MT James Entomological Collection engages in public outreach and education in conjunction with our Entomology Graduate Student Association. Visitors to the Department of Entomology have the chance to see an amazing assortment of preserved insects, spiders, and other arthropods, learn from informative displays, and hold live insects.
We can accommodate preschool classes and will take these children directly to the live arthropods, due to the constraints of our collection space. We have beautiful display exhibits to compliment the “touch-a-bug” aspect. We recommend that visitors to the research museum collection be elementary school age and above, and we pair these museum tours with the live arthropod hands-on experience.
Getting Here
When you arrive to the FSHN building, please gather in the lobby at the Entomology Office (at the south entrance). The research museum is on the 1st floor. The live insect component is held on our 3rd floor. There is a large elevator available for use. Our graduate student club typically runs the touch-a-bug aspect, so your visit is coordinated with the museum staff and the student volunteers. A visit involving the museum collection and live bugs can be expected to last an hour.
